DETROIT – The Detroit Lions say there are no more tickets available to the general public for the game between the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills in Ford Field on Monday night.
Massive amounts of snow in Buffalo has brought the Jets-Bills game to Detroit, and the tickets were free.
The Lions announced Saturday that online tickets were no longer available on the website, but fans could get their tickets at the Gate A box office starting at 10 a.m. Sunday. There were 500 tickets left, but all of those tickets have been distributed Sunday morning.
The Lions say no more tickets will become available to the public Monday before the game.
This isn't the first time weather has moved an out-of-town NFL matchup to the city. In 2010 the Vikings and Giants played in Detroit because of snow in Minnesota, and tickets were free that night as well.
For football fans it's like getting an unexpected much-appreciated treat -- NFL football without the ticket prices on a Monday night in the city. It's like playing hooky from real life.
"I'm excited for it. It will be fun to boo Marty Mornhinweg and Jim Schwartz," said Kevin Kielczewski, of Ann Arbor.
Free tickets can be picked up online Saturday and at the box office Sunday and Monday. Seating will be general admission.
"My friend had tickets," Mike Broadwell, of Berkley said when asked if he went to the game last time. "He had the tickets from the Lions game, so he brought them in and he got a free ticket for that."
Ford Field workers like Tanish Seward are glad to have a reason to go in on Monday.
"I'm excited to work Monday night at Ford Field," said Seward.
It's a nice bump for Detroit-area businesses.
"Even though Buffalo is coming to us, we're going to represent. We're going to show you all," said Jabarr Smith, of Detroit.
