Skier dies after fall at Pine Knob

51-year-old St. Clair Shores woman dies after fall at Oakland County ski hill

CLARKSTON, Mich. – A 51-year-old St. Clair Shores woman died after a skiing accident this past weekend at Pine Knob.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Janet Reed lost control while skiing, hit a tree and became tangled up in a fence. Pine Knob's ski patrol told the Sheriff's Office that Reed was knocked out by the collision but regained consciousness.

They untangled her from the fence and took her down the hill by snowmobile. They called EMS because she was complaining of chest pains. She was able to describe her fall.

However, Reed later died at McLaren Oakland Hospital. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to her chest and abdominal injuries suffered in the fall.

"Out of respect for the family in their time of grief, we have no comment at this time," said Robert Shick, general manager at Pine Knob, in a statement.

The ski resort was closed Monday while an investigation into Reed's death continues.
