DETROIT – The man shown on cellphone video getting punched and kicked by police officers during a Jan. 12 arrest now faces charges in a carjacking.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday charges against 51-year-old Andrew Jackson. He is accused of carjacking a 55-year-old woman and her young grandsons during the afternoon of Jan. 12 in the 18200 block of Evergreen Road in Detroit.

The Prosecutor's Office says Jackson robbed the woman at gunpoint and pointed the gun at the children, threatening to shoot them if they didn't get out of the vehicle. The robber got away with the woman's car and other personal property.
Police officers with the A.C.T.I.O.N. Auto Theft Task Force arrested Jackson later that day.
Part of the arrest was captured on video by a citizen's cellphone. A Grosse Pointe Park police officer and Highland Park police officer, who were part of the task force, are shown punching and kicking the suspected carjacker while he was lying on the sidewalk with his face down.
The Prosecutor's Office says an investigation into the way the arrest was handled has been handed over to the Michigan State Police. The investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Jackson faces charges including carjacking, armed robbery, assault with intent to rob while armed, felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful driving away of an automobile, resisting and obstructing, and felony firearm. The date of his arraignment will be announced later.
