SMART bus tips over after crash on 8 Mile Road

DETROIT – A SMART bus tipped over after a collision with another vehicle Thursday afternoon on 8 Mile Road near Hoover Road.

Detroit police say a Cadillac was traveling westbound on 8 Mile Road when it made the Michigan u-turn to head eastbound and collided with the bus. The bus tried to swerve in an effort to avoid the collision but hit the curb, which made it tip over.

No passengers were on the bus at the time of the collision. The 52-year-old bus driver was not injured. The 30-year-old driver of the Cadillac was transported to a hospital complaining of knee injuries.

A tow truck crew was able to get the bus upright again.

The bus is called a Connector, which is smaller than SMART's other buses.
