DETROIT – A Detroit police cruiser crashed Saturday night while chasing a suspect in a domestic abuse call, authorities said.
It happened about 9:15 p.m. Saturday in the area of Seven Mile Road and Archdale, right near the Southfield Freeway in northwest Detroit.
A woman called police after seeing her pregnant neighbor outside allegedly being beaten by a man. While the woman was on the phone with Detroit police, the man took off in a GMC Yukon.
Officers in the area started to pursue the SUV, but during the chase they rear-ended a Mercedes. That car rolled into a parked Charger.
Less than a block away the man crashed his car into the side of a business. The man was arrested before getting a chance to run away.
The Mercedes had significant rear-end damage. The Charger had minor damage. Both of those drivers work in the area and actually knew one another.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash with Detroit police is OK. It's not clear if the victim who was involved in the domestic assault ever sought medical attention.
