Police continue search for carjacker who was last seen near Claude Allison Park

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two children have been reunited with their mother after they were taken by a carjacker Monday morning in Redford Township.

Nikki Smith said she parked her Ford sedan outside the front door of Walsh's repair shop at 7 Mile and Beech Daly Roads around 10:45 a.m. and got out to ask for help. She said it wasn't a minute later that hat a man walked up, got into the car and took off.

Smith's two young children, Alexis and Rashad, were sleeping in the back seat.

Rich Walsh saw the carjacking happen. When Smith told him her children were in the car, he got into another car with Smith and started to follow the carjacker. They followed the carjacker until he stopped and got out near Claude Allison Park.

Smith said she confronted the man, but he just walked away.

The only description of the carjacker released by police is a white man in his 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 2 inches tall with a scruffy beard and mustache. He was wearing a blue and white jacket.

He did not have a weapon.
