General Holiefield dies after battle with cancer

DETROIT – UAW officials confirmed Monday night that former vice president General Holiefield has died.

Holiefield, 61, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year. He was receiving hospice care at Harper Hospital.

Holiefield started working at a Chrysler plant in 1973 and worked his way up the union ranks, eventually becoming an international vice president, who lead the union's Chrysler department. He retired last June.

No other details were immediately released.
