MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A mother who was entrusted with money that was meant for Shelby Township students was sentenced Thursday for stealing it.
Tracy Rhadigan was convicted of embezzling $68,000 from the Switzer Elementary parent-teacher organization when she was treasurer. Prosecutors said Rhadigan used the money to fund her family's lifestyle, which included buying lingerie and getting her nails done.
"I am very sorry for what I have caused the community, breaking the trust of the PTO board that I had the trust of," Rhadigan told the court.
She was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of probation. Rhadigan, who is pregnant with twins, will serve 60 days first and then 30 days after she gives birth.
She has also been ordered to repay the money.
