DETROIT – After a single year hiatus, the prestigious APBA Gold Cup will return to Detroit in 2016.
"Bringing the APBA Gold Cup back to Detroit next year for the 100th anniversary is something truly special," said Mark Weber, president of Detroit Riverfront Events, Inc., the organizing body for the UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit HydroFest -- which is happening Aug. 22-23 on the Detroit River.

The Gold Cup race was first run on the Detroit River in 1916. Next year's event, slated for August 20-21, 2016, will mark the centennial celebration of the inaugural race on the Detroit River for the iconic trophy.
"But we have so much to look forward to even before the Gold Cup's return," Weber said. "The UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit HydroFest is less than a month away and promises two days of action-packed racing, including the unlimiteds, Grand Prix and Formula 2 tunnel boats."
All general admission parks will be free and open to the public for this year's UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit HydroFest.
Grandstand seating starts at $45, with ticket prices increasing up to $175 for the VIP Club Gold Cup.
