DETROIT – A 24-year-old man has pleaded guilty to charges he raped an 11-year-old girl while she was on her way to school in Highland Park.
Ramirez Demarco Dewberry grabbed the girl at gunpoint on Dec. 10 as she ran to catch a bus on Church Street. He forced her into a vacant house and sexually assaulted her.

He pleaded guilty Tuesday to criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, felonious assault and a felony firearm charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 25.
The attack prompted family members, neighbors and community activists to band together as part of a community effort to find Dewberry.
