3-car-crash causes serious injuries in Bedford Twp.

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A three-vehicle crash caused serious injuries in Bedford Township Saturday evening, according to the Monroe County Sheriff.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Lewis Avenue and Smith Road around 5:30 p.m.

A tan 1999 Lexus SUV driven by Grant M. Garvin, 55, of Lambertville, failed to stop at the red light at the intersection and collided into the back of a black 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck stopped at the light.

The pickup truck was forced into the intersection and crashed into a green 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Garvin suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck, Michael Shirey, 33, of Temperance, along with his two children, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the Chrysler, Debra Bartel, 57, of Toledo, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital with 3 juvenile passengers who sustained minor injuries.

All victims in the crash are listed in stable condition.

Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said both speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

The crash is under investigation.
