DETROIT – A group known as the Felony Lane Gang is stealing checks from cars and cashing bogus checks at banks.
They got the name because they always use the outside lane of the bank drive thru to cash those stolen checks, sometimes wearing disguises to match the people they're impersonating. When they're caught, they flee at all costs.
A national law enforcement Facebook page says the Felony Lane Gang is hitting the Detroit area, victimizing at least 50 people in the past month alone.
The group hit a few vehicles in Bloomfield Hills while mothers watched a weekend soccer game at a middle school. The thieves broke into several cars and stole purses, wallets and credit cards.
The group is believed to have also victimized residents of Royal Oak, Farmington Hills, and both Wayne and Macomb counties.
They operate nationwide, following warmer weather, and several police departments in the region are intent on finding them before they leave because they're getting bolder and may commit home invasions before they try to pass checks.
