DETROIT – The Heidelberg Project on Detroit's east side says it's being plagued with break-ins and it needs the public to help stop them.

The public art installation has released a surveillance photo in connection with the most recent break-in on Nov. 3.

The front door of the Number House was kicked in and the house was ransacked by three males and a female who fled the area in a burgundy, older model Ford Taurus.

The project said they've turned over the surveillance video to police and the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm (ATF).

"We are very serious about protecting our residents and visitors and will continue to do everything we can but we must have cooperation with law enforcement and the public. We captured video footage of the perpetrators in the act and, thanks to our neighbors, we obtained the license plate. Now, is the time to send a message that we will not continue to be victimized. You will be caught and justice will be served," says executive director, Jenenne Whitfield.

Visitors to the project are being asked to park in highly visible areas and not to leave valuables in the car.

Anyone with information on the people in the surveillance photo, or any of the break-ins at the project, is asked to call the tip line at 313-628-2900.

The project is still investigating a string of arsons in 2013 and 2014 that destroyed several of the houses.
