Southgate police: Man with toy gun in bank said 'It's not like it's an Uzi'

Man faces charges after bringing toy gun into PNC bank

SOUTHGATE, Mich. – Police say a Riverview man brought a toy gun into a Southgate bank this week and waved it around.

Jeremy Amidon was talking on his phone when he walked into the PNC bank on Eureka Road near Dix Highway and placed a toy gun on the counter, police said. The teller thought she was being robbed and became clearly upset. Amidon picked up the toy gun and started waving it around and said, "It's not like it's an Uzi or anything," police said.

Police said he put the toy gun in his back pocket and went down to another teller for help.

A retired police officer walked into the bank and saw the handle of the pistol in the man's back pocket. He walked out of the bank and told police officers the man inside had what appeared to be a gun in his pocket.

Amidon was arrested outside the bank. He is charged with disorderly person and possession of a facsimile firearm.
