Man accused of strangling 89-year-old father to death inside Macomb Township home

55-year-old Gregory Lynn Nieman charged with premeditated murder

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 55-year-old man is accused of strangling his 89-year-old father to death inside his Macomb Township home.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said Gregory Lynn Nieman called police about 10:30 a.m. Sunday to report his father was not breathing and was cold to the touch. Deputies responded and found the 89-year-old man dead inside his condominium in the 45000 block of Warwick Drive.

The victim has been identified as Donald Robert Nieman.

Gregory Nieman initially was released after being questioned at the home. However, he was arrested after an autopsy showed his father died from manual strangulation.

Nieman is charged with premeditated first-degree murder. He was arraigned Tuesday and is being held without bond at the Macomb County Jail. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
