DETROIT – The suspect in the disappearance of a 4-year-old girl and her mother has been charged with murder Tuesday.
Marcus Tyrone Hightower, 34, of Detroit, has been charged in the deaths of 4-year-old Savannah Walker and her 39-year-old mother Heidi Walker.

Hightower was charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of felony murder, first-degree child abuse, unlawful imprisonment and third-degree arson.
An Amber Alert was issued early Saturday morning for Savannah, who along with her mother, had been missing since Tuesday.
Hours later, their bodies were discovered in a torched home on Detroit’s east side.
Hightower turned himself in to police Sunday morning. He was the last person seen with the two women, according to police.
Heidi Walker's older daughter detailed a history of abuse between her mother and Hightower.
Police confirmed there was a history of domestic abuse.
Hightower has a history of criminal violence and is on parole for assault with intent to commit murder.
He was arraigned Tuesday and remanded to jail.
