Man sentenced in deadly shooting at Greektown Casino

DETROIT – A Detroit man was sentenced Thursday to up to 17 years in prison for a shooting that killed a man at Greektown Casino.

Denzel Talbert, 22, was convicted of manslaughter, assault and a weapons charge for opening fire on two men last June after he got into a fight with them at the casino.

Martel Taylor, 18, was a killed. A 21-year-old man survived the shooting.

In court, Taylor's relatives spoke about how much they missed him and asked the judge to serve justice.

“He has not shown any empathy for the crime he committed,” said Jeranique Jernigan, Taylor’s niece. “And he should not be shown any empathy when determining his sentencing.”
