Detroit police: 2 Gunmen in minivan open fire on 4 people, killing 2 of them

Scene is on Hazelwood Street

DETROIT – Detroit police are looking for two gunmen in a black minivan who opened fire on four people who were sitting on a porch on the city's west side, killing two of them.

The drive-by shooting happened just before 4 p.m. at a home in the 2600 block of Hazelwood Street.

Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt said the gunman leaned out a Dodge Journey to fire. A third person was driving the minivan.

Chip Smith, 63, was killed at the scene and 43-year-old Jamil Goodwin later died at the hospital. Goodwin was a father of seven.

Dolunt called the shooting sickening.

"They're not man enough to show their face, they come out firing their guns from outside a car," he said. "This isn't a bad neighborhood. It's broad daylight and there's kids out here."

Dolunt also said he doesn't believe the shooting was random, and may have been in "retribution" to something.

"We believe that one person was the target," Dolunt said.
