ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A 24-year-old Walled Lake woman is accused of scamming dog lovers out of deposits for Yorkie puppies.
She went by the name Kelly Smith on Craigslist, offering Yorkshire terrier puppies to potential dog owners.
Lindsey Alakson, of Roseville, contacted the seller and they met in Roseville where the woman had a handwritten contract.
Alakson handed over a deposit in hopes of getting the puppy for her children on March 18. The woman sent updates and photos.
When March 18 rolled around, there was no puppy.
“It’s been a disaster,” Alakson said. “She had a fake ID, a fake name.”
The woman disappeared.
Gayl Adams said the woman led her on for two weeks.
“We’re not the only victims,” Adams said. “I gave her $150. Actually, $155, I gave her an extra $5.”
Adams found the woman on Facebook and handed the information over to police.
Police said the woman admitted to taking puppy photos off the internet and posting them to Craigslist, claiming she was selling six-week old Yorkies.
Felony charges against the woman are pending.
