2 masked gunmen rob charity poker tournament in Taylor

Police say more than $1,000 stolen Thursday night

TAYLOR, Mich. – Two masked gunman robbed dozens of people who were inside a charity poker room Thursday night in Taylor.

One of the victims who was inside Momo’s Charity Room on Telegraph Road told Local 4 he thought it was an April Fools’ joke.

“I was making a bet and the next thing I know, two guys came in from the doorway yelling, ‘This is a hold up,’” the victim said, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “They showed their weapons and ordered everybody to the ground and give up cash.”

The victim, who has a gun license, got emotional when he talked about his split-second decision to protect the room’s owner.

“I had a choice to either try to take them out, and possibly injure somebody else, or get the owner out of harm’s way. So, I chose to get George out of harm’s way,” he said.

Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said more than $1,000 was stolen.
