PONTIAC, Mich. – Two off-duty Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies accused of drunk driving on St. Patrick’s Day were arraigned Thursday.

Suspended deputy Drew Sackner, 29, was charged with operating a vehicle with a high BAC, possession of a firearm under the influence and failure to stop at the scene of a property damage accident.

Suspended deputy David Weaver III, 25, was charged with allowing an intoxicated person to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm under the influence.

Sackner allegedly rear-ended a 70-year-old woman’s vehicle on University Drive near Paddock Street in Pontiac.

The woman was treated at the hospital.

According the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Sackner’s BAC was .20 and Weaver’s BAC was .13.

“This is completely unacceptable on more levels than I can list,” Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said. “Law enforcement is held to a higher standard. They have violated the public’s trust and will be held accountable for their inexcusable actions.”

Bouchard said both deputies have been with the department for fewer than two years.

Both men were given a $5,000 bond. Their next court date is scheduled for April 26 at 9 a.m.

A hearing will take place next week regarding their termination.
