3 men charged in shooting death of 3-year-old Detroit girl

A'niaya Montgomery died Easter morning

DETROIT – Three men are facing murder charges in connection with the death of a 3-year-old girl who was shot Easter morning in a home on Detroit's west side.

Paul Kendall Jr., 24, of Ecorse, Reginald Street, 19, of Detroit, and Jonathan Lamar Burks, 30, of Detroit, were arraigned Monday morning on a grand jury indictment. They're all facing first-degree murder, felony murder, assault with intent to murder, home invasion and firearms charges.

A'naiya Montgomery was killed when a gunman opened fire in a home on Riverview. Two adults were also hit by the gunfire, but survived.

Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Athina Siringas said they intend to prove Kendall was the shooter.

The trial is slated to begin in June.

Montgomery's death sparked a peace rally last week, where community leaders asked the public to be vigilant of gun violence in the city.
