STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Police are searching for a man caught on camera stealing a trailer from a local business in Sterling Heights.
Srodek’s Deli and Bakery has been an important part of Hamtramck since they opened in 1981. The family opened a second location in Sterling Heights and is building a third location at Mound and 17 1/2 Mile roads.
The new location is under construction is expected to open later this year.
“It’s something we’ve always wanted to do,” Maggie Srodek said. “It’s been a dream of ours as a family.”
Surviellance video captured a white SUV circling the building Monday afternoon. The SUV stopped and a guy gets out and breaks the chains on a trailer used to transport materials. In less than three minutes, the man drove away with a $4,000 trailer.
“No one should ever experience something like this,” Srodek said. “It doesn’t matter if you have money or don’t have money. It’s your hard earned money when it comes down to it.”
But this wasn’t the first time Srodek’s Deli has had a problem. They’ve caught many incidents on camera including illegal dumping.
Last month, someone in a pickup truck decided to use the side of their building for a dump, leaving the Srodeks to clean up.
“They didn’t even have the common courtesy to throw them in the dumpster,” Srodek said.
