Grosse Ile teacher accused of assaulting middle school student

GROSSE ILE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Grosse Ile Middle School usually makes headlines for positive things its students are doing.

However, the latest news about a teacher at the school has left many blindsided. A long-time teacher is accused of assaulting a student.

"Definitely shocked," said former student Jared Malecki. "(I don't) want to hear that about a school district that I grew up in. We all grew up going to Grosse Ile (Middle School) and we had no problems with it."

The superintendent said the teacher will remain on paid administrative leave until police wrap up an investigation.

Meanwhile, neither police nor the district will talk more about what allegedly happened.

"I just want to know what happened and whether or not it's true. I don't like these allegations just swirling around," said former student Greg Vella.

There is speculation the same teacher was under investigation for assaulting another student a few years ago. The superintendent would not confirm such speculation. She can't comment due to the pending criminal investigation.

"I just hope that whatever is going on is not terrible they'll be able to work it out," said Malecki.
