Community prays for peace after father of two gunned down in Pontiac

PONTIAC, Mich. – A vigil was held Wednesday night to remember a father shot multiple times found lying in the middle of a street in Pontiac.

Tremaine Walker was shot and killed Tuesday in Pontiac. He was 30 and a father of two girls.

The vigil began at 7 p.m. Dozens of community members came out to show their support for the family and to pray for an end to the violence.

“I’m at a loss for words because he was there 100 percent for my babies,” Walker’s girlfriend Ashley Robinson said.

Multiple gunshots were heard in the area of Markle and Barkell avenues at about 5 p.m. Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies found Walker lying in the street shot multiple times.

Walker was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“There is children that are affected and impacted so tremendously due to the violence,” Deleah Sharp said.

Walker’s death is the tenth homicide of the year in Pontiac. The Sheriff’s Office investigated only 9 homicides in all of last year in Pontiac.

“We got to take our city back,” Rolanda Williams said. “We got to look to a higher power because God is here to help us.”

A 27-year-old man from New Orleans was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Detectives Wednesday morning. A semi-automatic rifle was also recovered and a vehicle believed to have been used in the shooting.

The suspect is being lodged at the Oakland County Jail.

The incident remains under investigation.
