Sterling Heights police: road-rage caused head-on collision with school bus

Bus belongs to Warren Consolidated Schools

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Sterling Heights police say road rage between two drivers resulted in one of them to crash head-on into a school bus on 15 Mile Road.

The crash happened Friday at about 11:30 a.m. just east of Dequindre, and involved a Warren Consolidated Schools bus.

Local 4 spoke with one of the drivers who was involved. Divon Yono said he beeped his horn at another driver, and the other driver became aggressive.

“He came out in front of me. He stopped, he came of the vehicle. I thought he was going to come assault me. He came and ripped off my windshield wiper,” Yono said. “He got back into his car, he came in front of me. He blocked me, so I went around him in the left lane. All I heard was a collision. He hit me, spun me around, pushed me into the Thrifty florist shop and he hit the school bus.”

A spokesperson for the school district said there were 27 middle school students on the bus. One student and the bus driver suffered minor injuries. The rest of the students were put on a different bus and taken home.

Police said they are still investigating the road rage incident. No arrests have been made.
