Birmingham auctioneer to sell Marla Maples' engagement ring

Ring will be centerpiece of upcoming fine jewelry auction

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Nothing says true love like a 7 1/2-carat emerald cut diamond ring from legendary jeweler Harry Winston.

Sadly, in the case of Donald Trump and former wife Marla Maples, the sparkler couldn't make the union work.

In 2000, Maples contacted Birmingham-based auctioneer Joseph DuMouchelle to sell her ring. He beat the estimates other well-known auction houses were giving her by selling it for $110,000.

Fast forward to today, that buyer has decided she’s ready to sell.

"She's at a certain point in life where she's enjoyed it, but she's ready to sell it," DuMouchelle told Local 4 News.

The ring will be the centerpiece of an upcoming fine jewelry auction featuring other pieces from legendary jewelers, like Verdura and Cartier, to be held in New York City at the end of the month.

However, if anyone would like to view the collection, there will be a preview at DuMouchelle's Birmingham office next Friday and Saturday.

So will it be the Trump provenance that sells this ring?

"I think first and foremost it will be the fact it's Harry Winston and 7 carats and F color and VS1," DuMouchelle said. "But ownership does come into play there are many people who love to own something because somebody else did."

The estimated sale price is $300,000.
