Man shot over Air Jordans in Detroit

Police say gunman told him to hand over shoes

DETROIT – A 25-year-old man was shot early Friday morning over a pair of shoes, police said.

A gunman approached him near Grand River Avenue and Lahser and told him he wanted his Air Jordans. Detroit police said the victim responded "not happened," and then he was shot.

Police have not offered a description of the shooter.

The victim is in stable condition.

Air Jordan shoes have been at the center of several shootings over the years. Back in February, a 17-year-old boy was shot in Southwest Detroit by a trio of youths who stole his Air Jordans.

In April 2015, an 18-year-old man was shot when he refused to hand over his Air Jordan shoes near Eaton Avenue and Birwood Street in Detroit. It was a similar scenario: An armed man in a Ford Fusion exited the vehicle and approached the victim, ordering him to give him his shoes. The victim refused and was shot once. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
