New apartments coming to Capitol Park in downtown Detroit

28Grand project to create housing for mixed-use, mixed-income residents

DETROIT – Detroit's first microloft apartments are coming to Capitol Park this summer.

The apartments will be in a mixed-use, mixed-income, 13-story residential building at the corner of West Grand River Avenue and Griswold Street in downtown Detroit.

The apartments will be in the largest ground-up residential building in Detroit's Central Business District since the 1980s.

The 28Grand project will create 218 furnished microlofs, 133 market-rate apartments and 85 apartments for residents who qualify for low-income housing tax credits from the Michigan State Housing and Development Authority.

Each unit will offer free HD television, furniture, high-speed internet, microwave, refrigerator, bed, gas, electricity and water. The furnished units are an average of 260 square feet.

The apartments are expected to be ready by the summer of 2017.
