Arab-American Civil Rights League to announce lawsuit challenging immigration ban

DETROIT – The Arab-American Civil Rights League is expected to announce the filing of a federal lawsuit on behalf of several of its members challenging the constitutionality of President Donald Trump’s executive order.

The ACRL will hold a news conference at the Theodore Levin Federal Courthouse at 3:30 p.m.

The lawsuit alleges that the order is unconstitutional because it bans Muslims and Arabs from Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States. The plaintiffs named in the suit are individuals who are lawful permanent residents of the U.S. and citizens of one of the seven countries subject to the ban.

The ACRL said it strongly opposes the ban as it is designed to target immigrant communities and are disgracefully timed during an urgent humanitarian crisis.
