DETROIT – The Roxbury Group, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and state and local officials opened The Griswold apartments, adding 80 new units to downtown Detroit's skyline.
The apartment building is the first new construction project of its kinds to be completed in Detroit's Central Business District in nearly 25 years.

Construction on the $24 million development began at the end of 2015 and was completed at the end of 2016. The Griswold was one of the fastest projects to rise in the downtown area in years, officials said.
Nearly half of The Griswold's 80 apartments have already been leased.
"The completion of The Griswold helps meet the growing demand for residential units downtown," Duggan said. "The fact that we are starting to see new residential construction, to compliment the many residential building restorations already taking place, is a clear sign of an increasingly strong housing market in Detroit."
The Griswold includes one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments ranging from 750 to 1,600 square feet. Some of the units have balconies. The rental rates are from around $1,000 to $3,000 per month.
The apartments offer unobstructed views of downtown Detroit, nine-foot ceilings, polished concrete floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, wood trim and doors and stainless steel appliances.
Resident parking is offered in the parking structure below the apartments. The parking structure has access to the residences at each level and has a residents-only elevator.
"While we are proud of all of our developments, it was particularly gratifying for our team to bring The Griswold to completion," David Di Rita, the principal of Roxbury Group, said. "It's clear now that our original vision for The Griswold was ahead of its time, but that the property we are delivering today is truly in step with downtown's present and future."
The Griswold is located at 1117 Griswold Street in downtown Detroit.
