Wayne family seeks justice 6 years after deadly hit and run

Chris Lentz killed by hit-and-run driver

WAYNE, Mich. – Six years after a man was killed in a hit-and-run crash, his daughter is pleading for the person responsible to come forward.

Chris Lentz was killed by a hit-and-run driver on New Years Day in 2011 on Merriman Road and Van Born. Today would be his 50th birthday.

"To know somebody did that and they just got away scot-free while we're still suffering six years later, it hurts," Christina Lentz said.

She said she has tried blocking out a lot of memories from that day, but it's hard to forget.

"I was expecting him to be at my house and hang for the New Year and he never showed and then I got a couple phone calls and the police showed up at my house telling me that my dad was gone," she said.

Lentz said her father was her best friend.

"I could talk to him about anything. When I got pregnant, he was the first person I told because I was scared. It hurts to know that he's never gonna be here. He's never gonna meet my son. He's never going to be there for my daughters. It just hurts," Lentz said.

She still lives and works near the area where the incident happened.

"I drive by here every day and my mind constantly wanders like do I know the person or do I know somebody who knows the person," she said.

She hopes the person who hit her father will finally come forward so her family can have closure.

"Somebody's out there doing whatever they want to do while my dad is in an urn in my house. He's not alive anymore to have fun and we can't enjoy him, it's no more," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. There's a $2,500 reward for information.
