DETROIT – DTE Energy crews are working 16-hour shifts, with help from out-of-state crews Thursday after a wind storm knocked out power to more than 700,000 customers on Wednesday.
Erin Couchman Hintz, the wife of a union contractor working with DTE and Consumers from Lapeer, Michigan, wants you to know that restoring power is no joke:

My husband is a lineman is out on storm. Before he started this career I would always assume they would sit around and not be doing anything while I was out of power. Well turns out there is a ton a factors and they have to wait for orders and tree cutters and proper equipment!
I know it's frustrating. I wait like everyone else. Please be patient, my kids and I won't get to see him anytime soon and I promise they really do care. Also a lineman in Grand Rapids is now in critical condition after a live wire hit him. So please say a pray for him and all Lineman that risk there lives! They have family's too. Mine has a 6 and 10 year old waiting for him👏🏻
I'm only posting this because I use to think that they where just having a good old time sitting in a truck and not doing anything So I get it!! But if you don't know someone in the trade then you will also think like I did!! Just wanted people to know that they really are working I promise🙌🏻
*I also don't get "my power" restored any quicker. Heck he doesn't even work by where we live. So by all means if you think you can do better, than please they are always hiring lineman!
Just have to learn how to climb a pole, play with live wire, work 16hrs straight, have one meal a day, and miss out on lives with there family just to make sure everyone has power restored!
The DTE Outage Map is only working on the DTE mobile app, although we haven't been able to load it completely with testing.
The website crashed on Wednesday afternoon as power outages started to pile up.
