The summer season is possible due to improvements in cold storage technology that allows apples to stay fresh over the winter.

Over the summer, the mill will be selling cider, donuts, fudge and bakery items, as well as ice cream. Yates features a donut sundae, custard sundaes, hand-dipped ice cream, malts and shakes.

“We started offering a spring pressing a few years ago on a very small scale and its really become a popular way for our community to enjoy some of their Yates favorites while getting out and enjoying Michigan’s great spring weather," said Mike Titus, Yates Cider Mill president.

During the launch of the spring pressing season April 14, cider and donut samples will be offered from 4-5 p.m.

The grand opening event will feature Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett.

Yates Cider Mills is located at 1990 East Avon Road in Rochester Hills.

Cider mill hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Ice cream shop hours are Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
