DETROIT – A Detroit woman who lost her dog during the massive wind storm last month said she thinks she discovered where her husky is, but the rescue shelter won't let her see the dog.
It's easy to take for granted that once a lost dog is found, it'll end up back with its owner. But this woman believes a rescue shelter is stopping her from reuniting with her dog.
Yesenia Garcia said she just wants her dog back. The husky, Bonita, dashed off from her home in Southwest Detroit during the massive wind storm that hit southeast Michigan on March 8.
Garcia said she's been searching for Bonita ever since.
She thought she found good news when she saw a Facebook post from someone who found a husky that looked a lot like Bonita. But she learned the dog had been handed over to Home Fur-Ever Rescue, which won't allow her to see if the dog is hers. The rescue group said the dog has been adopted out.
Home Fur-Ever Rescue is located at two homes off of Michigan Avenue in Southwest Detroit. Local 4 reached out to the rescue group over the phone and on Facebook, but the messages went unanswered, and nobody was at the building.
