ROCKWOOD, Mich. – A driver who fled from a hit-and-run crash scene Wednesday morning ended up crashing their vehicle into a home in Rockwood.
Flat Rock police said the driver of an SUV did not stop after being involved in a crash with a motorcycle at Telegraph Road and Huron River Drive. The motorcyclist is expected to be OK.
After that crash, the driver went eastbound on Huron River Drive until smashing into a home about 4 a.m. near Olmstead Road in Rockwood. The SUV also struck a car parked in the driveway of the home next-door. That car was forced across the home's front lawn and onto another driveway.
Rockwood police said the driver was not being pursued.
"No police pursuit. He was just trying to get away, we believe, from that traffic crash at Huron River Drive and Telegraph, heading east, and from what it looks like at a very high rate of speed. (He) didn't manipulate the curb very well, and struck the yellow vehicle in this driveway first, into the house, and the driveway to the east," said Rockwood police Chief Stephen Rowe.
25-year-old driver in 'grave' condition
The driver, identified as a 25-year-old Monroe man, is considered to be in "grave" condition at a hospital, police said.
