Brick thrown through car window fractures skull of 2-year-old girl

2 mothers report separate incidents of bricks thrown at cars

DETROIT – A 2-year-old girl was seriously injured Wednesday when a man threw a brick through a car window and hit her in the head, Detroit police said.

Police said a man ran out in front of the car at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday at the I-75 Service Drive and Forest. He then ran back to the sidewalk, picked up a brick and threw it at the car, police said.

The brick crashed through the rear passenger window and hit Robyn Rivers in the head, police said. She was taken to Children's Hospital in critical condition.

Another mother, Brandi Williams, said police would have found the brick thrower and his two friends if they had responded to her 911 call. She said the same man threw a brick at her car near the Service Drive and Canfield, narrowly missing her 2-year-old child.

"I pulled over and confronted the guy," Brandi Williams said.

She said she turned back as the teens were walking back up the drive, but she said police told her to call her insurance.

"'There's nothing we can do because no one was injured,'" Brandi Williams said.

Robyn was prepared in the hospital for surgery on her fractured skull.

"I'm just afraid that I might lose her," Barbara Williams, Robyn's mother, said.

Barbara Williams said there was so much blood she thought her daughter had been shot.

"It was just blood pouring out, I didn't know what it was," Barbara Williams said. "I thought they had shot my daughter in her head."

Police called the act "outrageous."

"What we do want them to know is that we will find you," Detroit police Deputy Chief Renee Hall said.

Barbara Williams said she wants the rock thrower to know he almost took her baby girl away from her.

"She's all I really have," Barbara Williams said.

Brandi Williams said she took her children to her work after the incident and turned back around to confront the brick thrower. The men were still in the area, and she said the man apologized to her, took his hooded sweatshirt off and walked away.

Police are searching for a skinny, light-skinned 17- to 21-year-old man. He has a fade haircut and a thin mustache and is 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was wearing a red hooded shirt and white pants.
