Troy contractor charged with bribery in Macomb County corruption case

Paulin Modi accused in bribery case

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An engineering contractor from Troy was charged Tuesday with conspiracy to bribe a public official in Washington Township.

Paulin Modi, 48, is accused of paying a $1,000 cash bribe to a Washington Township official in May 2014 with respect to Modi's contract.

Modi is also accused of helping to facilitate a $2,000 cash bribe by another contractor between June and October 2014.

The case is part of the government's wide-ranging corruption investigation centered in Macomb County.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
