HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A fire ravaged a popular market Monday morning in Highland Township leading residents to believe a serial arsonist is responsible.

Several area fire departments were called in to assist fighting the fire at Colasanti’s Market on Milford Road. The call came in at about 12:45 a.m.

The fire was contained to the greenhouse portion of the business and Casa De Amici, a boutique shop.

Highland Township has been victim to several fires over the past year at stores, barns and restaurants. Investigators say none of the fires have been determined arson and only two are suspicious.

“We do not have an arsonist running around town,” said Chief Kevin Chapman. “There is no reason for people to be concerned.”

The cause of the fire at Colasanti’s Market is under investigation, but the flames have fanned rumors of an arsonist.

Many have voiced their concerns on a Facebook group called “Highland Matters.”

The market was open Monday.

“It’s a key fixture in our community,” Highland Township Supervisor Rick Hamill said.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help rebuild the boutique store.
