Detroit brick thrower appears in court as injured toddler heals

Robyn Rivers, 2, recovering from fractured skull

DETROIT – Two women said they are hoping for justice as a teenager accused of throwing bricks at cars with children inside appears in court.

Robyn Rivers, 2, underwent surgery last month after a brick was thrown through the window of the car she was in and hit her in the head. The incident happened May 24 on the I-75 Service Drive near Forest in Detroit.

Robyn has returned home and is continuing to recover from the incident.

"She tells me to rub her head at night, every night," Robyn's mother, Barbara Williams, said. "Like clockwork, she tells me to rub her head."

Robyn is back to healing and playing, less than a month after her skull was fractured by the brick.

Near the scene of the crime is the juvenile courthouse, where the 16-year-old boy accused of throwing the brick came face-to-face with Williams.

"To see that he has a smirk on his face makes you more emotional and angry," Williams said.

Brandi Williams said she was also victimized by one of the alleged attacks. She said the teenager threw a brick at her car the same night, nearly hitting her 2-year-old child.

The two concerned mothers met for the first time as the 16-year-old appeared in court.

"I was glad to meet her," Brandi Williams said. "To see that her baby was OK, but it's sad there is a scar and a plate in her head. That is devastating."

Brandi Williams was the person who reported the teenager to police, which led to a sketch and, ultimately, his arrest.

"If it wasn’t for her, he would still be out here, you know, and can actually kill someone," Barbara Williams said.

Both mothers want justice in the case, and they're both hoping Robyn continues to recover.
