DETROIT, Mich. – A six-month pregnant Detroit woman was shot five times Saturday outside her home on the East Side.
The woman's family members said she had just gotten out of the passenger seat of her mother's car when someone on the porch started shooting.
The woman held onto the car door for support before collapsing back in the car.
The woman's mother drove off as fast as she could.
The family of India Cobbs, 31, said the first-time mom-to-be was shot almost as soon as she arrived to her home. She was shot twice in the stomach and three times in her legs and arm.
The shooting happened at the woman's home on 7 Mile Road and Teppert Street around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Family members said two men on the porch started shooting before Cobbs was even able to close the car door.
The family said Cobbs spent the day with her mom on Detroit's riverfront. They were just arriving home to turn the lights on before going to her grandmother's house. The shooter kept firing as the pair took off.
The woman was taken to St. John Hospital and Medical Center. The family said despite being shot five times, both mother and baby are expected to survive .
Family members also said the woman's home was ransacked and her gun was stolen, but it's not clear if she was shot with her own weapon.
The Detroit Police Department is now looking for two men in connection with the shooting.
