VIDEO: Milwaukee officer rescues small dog from lagoon

A Milwaukee police officer was neck-deep in a lagoon last week to save a small dog who had gotten in the water. The Milwaukee Police Department posted a video of the rescue onto their Facebook page.

The officer is seen swimming out from the middle of the murky lagoon with the dog in one hand. The dog had reportedly gotten wrapped in weeds and tangled in fishing line with a hook and bobber hanging from him.

According to a report from WTMJ, Milwaukee officers Joe Spingola and Mike Smith were at a park when they spotted the dog near the water's edge. They helped the dog out of the water and the dog then took off into the park.

A short time later, they heard a splash and the dog was back in the water. He had either fallen in or jumped in. The dog swam out into the middle of the lagoon and was having trouble getting back. That's when Officer Spingola decided to go in after the dog himself.

The dog was taken to animal control and appeared to be a healthy, 8-year-old poodle mix.
