WOODHAVEN, Mich. – Cameras will be installed at three Woodhaven train crossings where drivers often get stopped by trains.
“When you have a plan to go somewhere, if you get caught by that train, you are 30 to 45 minutes behind,” Anna Hollis said.
Cameras will be going up at the railroad crossings at Allen, King and Van Horn roads.
The cameras will have a live feed going straight to the city's web page so drivers can see if the tracks are blocked and go an alternate way.
"The purpose of the cameras is simply to give people some help. We know it's not a fix; we know it doesn't solve the problem, but it should help the problem," Woodhaven police Lt. Francis Zdankiewicz said.
The fix is an estimated $32 million underpass. So far, the money hasn't come from a ballot proposal or any grants that have been applied for over the years.
