A New York City bus driver is in critical condition after his bus began rolling out of control and he tried stopping it early Tuesday morning. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
The footage shows Kalib Oliver step out of his bus before it starts rolling backwards down the street. Oliver makes an attempt to try to stop the runaway bus, but as he is clinging to the side, he becomes pinned between the bus and a light pole and is thrown to the ground. The bus continues rolling down the street.

According to WNBC, Oliver was due to have surgery for a punctured lung, broken arm and broken leg. He sustained injuries when he got crushed against the light pole.
The bus ended up crashing into a cemetery fence down the street.
According to the MTA, Oliver failed to secure the emergency brake. His union said a second driver saw what was happening and managed to pull the brake.
The union said Oliver had been driving for more than a decade.
