DETROIT – The restitution that former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick owes Detroit's Water and Sewerage Department was lowered Thursday.
Kilpatrick was initially ordered Dec. 17, 2013 to pay $4,584,423 in restitution. That number was lowered to $1,520,653.50.

According to records, the court found that Kilpatrick's gains did not directly correlate with the losses the DWSD faced.
He argued in court filings that the government cannot provide enough evidence of what amount he should owe.
