CHINA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 57-year-old man drowned Saturday night when he fell into the Belle River in China Township, police said.
Police said the man, who is from Marine City, was camping at the China Township Belle River Access Park with friends when they heard him fall at about 9:50 p.m. Police said reports from other campers indicated that the man may have been highly intoxicated when he fell.

Rescue crews removed the man from the water and administered CPR. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
There was no sign of an altercation, police said, but an investigation is underway.
