DETROIT – When Wayne State University Police Sgt. Collin Rose was fatally shot last November, he was engaged to be married the following year.

While Rose and his fiancée were unable to take wedding photos together, Nikki Salgot took photos in her dress with a folded flag and Rose's cap and badge as their wedding date neared.

Rachel Smaller, of Rachel Smaller Photography, took the photos for Salgot on Oct. 4, 10 days before she was supposed to marry Rose.

Salgot posed in the woods as she grieved the lost of her fiancé, who was killed Nov. 23, 2016 while working in Detroit.

Smaller told "The Today Show" that she "needed to tell the story of this woman who’s lost the love of her life but is still going to have closure, and still going to be his wife one way or another."
