Several automakers are getting an early holiday present this morning as are motorists.
The Insurance Institute For Highway Safety has awarded 62 vehicles as the "Top Safety Picks" for 2018.

Of the 62 vehicles awarded, 15 earned the even higher ranking of "Top Safety Pick+", despite tougher criteria requiring better headlights and enhanced passenger side protection.
In order to be awarded the IIHS honors, vehicles go through a series of crash tests where they show, how they can protect motorists in front, side, rollover and rear impact collisions as well as testing automatic emergency braking systems.
Toyota led the automakers with 10 of its vehicles receiving honors, while Hyundai came in second with nine vehicles and all but one of the seven vehicles in Subaru's 2018 lineup earned an award.
The IIHS has released its "Top Safety Pick" list since the 2006 model year and its "Top Safety Pick+" list since the 2013 model year. The group says each year they strengthen the award criteria in order to push automakers to speed up safety advances.
