Bush family legacy extends well beyond Texas

Jeb Bush served as governor for 8 years in Florida

When you think of the Bush family, what state do you think of? Texas, perhaps?

What about Florida?

Despite the roots that the Bushes planted in Texas, it was Jeb Bush, the son of George H.W. and Barbara Bush, who moved to the Sunshine State after the 1980 presidential election.

Here's a quick synopsis of how Jeb Bush rose to power: It started when he relocated his family to Miami-Dade County and accepted a job in real estate with a self-made millionaire, who eventually made Bush his business partner. Their firm quickly became one of South Florida's leading real estate development agencies. During Bush's time in the Miami region, he got involved with many different entrepreneurial opportunities.

Bush had volunteered with his dad’s campaigns in 1980 and 1988, and then in the mid-'80s, Jeb Bush launched his own political career as the chairman of the Dade County Republican Party.

He went on to work as campaign manager for a congresswoman and then ran for governor in 1994, but he lost to the incumbent, Gov. Lawton Chiles.

When Bush campaigned again for governor, in 1998, this time, he beat out the Democrat, Lt. Gov. Buddy MacKay.

And then when Bush won re-election in 2002, he became the first two-term Republican governor in the state of Florida.

So, as for what Bush accomplished while in office? We’ll let the numbers speak for themselves.
