A Downtown Detroit sandwich spot is adding a smoothie menu that includes a CBD option.
CBD, or cannabidiol, has become increasingly popular in lotions, tinctures and foods. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in hemp, a version of the cannabis plant that is low in THC, the part of cannabis that gives pot its high.

ChickP Detroit, located just outside Capitol Park, opened last summer offering a variety of sandwiches, falafel, rice bowls and salads. Starting this week, they will begin offering smoothies.
The smoothie menu features eight different options. Any smoothie can be infused by CBD oil for an additional $5.
CBD oil was legalized in Michigan this year with a bill sponsored by State Rep. Steve Johnson.
“CBD oil derived from hemp doesn’t get you high,” Johnson said. “It contains no more than 0.3 percent Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). But the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs decided last summer to start classifying it the same way they do marijuana, which contains 5 to 35 percent THC.”
ChickP is located at 110 Clifford Street, around the corner from Cafe D'Mongos Speakeasy
and just a few blocks from Comerica Park. It's open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restaurant plans to add shawarma and other new sandwiches soon.
